Comrades,

Although I am sure that an official statement from Workers World Party will soon be released conveying the sadness of our entire leadership and membership at the death of Ka Bel, I wish to offer my personal condolences.

Meeting him and spending several hours in conversation with him in his hospital room was certainly one of the highlights of my trip to the Philippines in Dec. 2006. His kind demeanor, warm spirit, extensive knowledge and revolutionary optimism reminded me so much of the founder of Workers World Party, Sam Marcy. I thought how privileged I was to have personal experience with working class leaders who exhibited the most worthy characteristics of humanity.

But moreover, i saw the reflection of those same traits in so many of the leaders and members of the unions and popular organizations i met during my visit.

Ka Bel did his job well because he has helped create hundreds and thousands of passionate, determined and skilled men and women who will carry the struggle forward until victory over imperialist domination and capitalist exploitation.

Long live the revolutionary spirit of Ka Bel!
A luta continua!
