Letter of Sympathy of the Central Committee of the MLPD on Occasion of the Death of the Revolutionary Working Class Leader Comrade Crispin ‘Ka Bel’ Beltran, Member of Congress of ANAKPAWIS (Party of the Toiling Masses) and Long-Term Chairman of the Filipino Trade Union Umbrella Association KMU (Union of May First)

Dear Rosario, dear relatives, dear friends and comrades,

with great dolour and sympathy we came to know that comrade Crispin ‘Ka Bel’ Beltran died from the consequences of his severe injuries he contracted from tumbling down the roof of his house at the age of 75.

On behalf of the Marxist-Leninist Party of Germany (MLPD), its youth league REBELL and its children’s organisation ROTFÜCHSE we express our cordial condolences to his family, his friends and comrades to the party ANAKPAWIS, the Filipino people and to the revolutionary and working-class movement in the Philippines.

Comrade Crispin Beltran was a good friend and international brother-in-arm of the MLPD. When he was visiting Germany or when delegations of MLPD visited the Philippines, many members and friends of the MLPD and its youth league had the opportunity to get to know him personally as a brave, optimistic and warm-hearted friend and comrade, too.

1986 he was elected chairman of the union KMU and was elected into parliament as representative in 2001. His revolutionary class standpoint was impressive that made him stand up for the national and social liberation of the Filipino working-class in a consequent and courageous way without letting him being intimidated by numerous detentions, torture and death threats.

Next to Jose Maria Sison (founding chairman of the Communist Party of the Philippines) he was heading a list published by the Filipino intelligence services targeting his arrest respectively liquidation and he was one of the butts of the intermittent state of emergency in 2006. He was arrested by US-slaved Arroyo regime in February 2006 and was detained despite serious illness until June 2007. His release was a great success of the Filipino working-class and people’s movement and of the world-wide solidarity.

Crispin Beltran was a proletarian internationalist and was seeking for international co-operation on the basis of equal rights. The working-class and people’s movement in Germany did not forget that Crispin Beltran as a Filipino working-class leader also had an important part in organising international solidarity in the Philippines with the working-class and people’s struggles in Germany as the Opel (GM) strike in 2004 or the Monday Demonstration Movement and that he actively promoted the participation of Filipino workers delegations at international events in Germany. With Crispin Beltran not only the Filipino working-class and people’s movement, but also the international proletariat has lost a brilliant representative.

We are certain that it is in his spirit to turn the dolour about the great loss into strength in order to perpetuate his revolutionary concern.

Mai)

Liebe Rosario, liebe Angehörige, liebe Freunde und Genossen,
mit großer Trauer und Anteilnahme haben wir erfahren, dass Genosse Crispin ‚Ka Bel’ Beltran heute an den Folgen der schweren Verletzungen, die er sich aufgrund eines Sturzes vom Dach seines Hauses zugezogen hatte, im Alter von 75 Jahren gestorben ist.
 

Im Namen der Marxistisch-Leninistischen Partei Deutschlands (MLPD), ihres Jugendverbandes REBELL und der Kinderorganisation Rotfüchse sprechen wir seiner Familie, seinen Freunden und Genossen, der Partei ANAKPAWIS, dem philippinischen Volk und der revolutionären und Arbeiterbewegung auf den Philippinen unser aufrichtiges Beileid aus.
 

Genosse Crispin Beltran war ein guter Freund und internationaler Kampfgefährte der MLPD. Bei Besuchen von Crispin Beltran in Deutschland und Besuchen von Delegationen der MLPD auf den Philippinen konnten ihn viele Mitglieder und Freunde der MLPD und ihres Jugendverbandes auch persönlich als unerschrockenen, optimistischen und warmherzigen Freund und Genossen kennen lernen.
 

1986 wurde er zum Vorsitzenden der Gewerkschaft KMU gewählt und 2001 als Abgeordneter in das philippinische Parlament gewählt. Beeindruckend war sein revolutionärer Klassenstandpunkt, mit dem er konsequent und mutig für den Kampf für die nationale und soziale Befreiung der philippinischen Arbeiterklasse und des philippinischen Volkes eintrat und sich auch durch mehrfache Verhaftungen, Folter und Morddrohungen nicht einschüchtern ließ. Er stand neben Jose Maria Sison (Gründungsvorsitzender der Kommunistischen Partei der Philippinen) an der Spitze einer von den philippinischen Sicherheitskräften veröffentlichten Liste zur Verhaftung bzw. Liquidierung und war eine der ersten Zielscheiben des zeitweisen Ausnahmezustandes 2006. Im Februar 2006 wurde er durch das US-hörige Arroyo-Regimes fest genommen und war trotz schwerer Krankheit bis Juni 2007 in Haft. Seine Freilassung war ein großer Erfolg der philippinischen Arbeiter- und Volksbewegung und der weltweiten Solidarität.
 

Crispin Beltran war proletarischer Internationalist und suchte die gleichberechtigte internationale Zusammenarbeit. Die Arbeiter- und Volksbewegung in Deutschland hat nicht vergessen, dass Crispin Beltran als philippinischer Arbeiterführer wichtigen Anteil auch an der Organisierung der internationalen Solidarität auf den Philippinen mit den Arbeiter- und Volkskämpfen in Deutschland hatte, wie dem Opelstreik 2004 oder der Bewegung der Montagsdemonstrationen und aktiv die Teilnahme philippinischer Arbeiterdelegationen an internationalistischen Ereignissen in Deutschland förderte. Mit Crispin Beltran hat nicht nur die philippinische Arbeiter- und Volksbewegung, sondern auch das internationale Proletariat einen hervorragenden Vertreter verloren.
 

Wir sind sicher, dass es in seinem Sinne ist, die Trauer um den großen Verlust in Kraft zu verwandeln, um sein revolutionäres Anliegen fortzusetzen.
