Central Visayas Peasantry Condemns the Killings in Oriental Negros

The Militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, strongly condemns the killing of Fermin Lorico, Chairperson of the Kahugpungan sa mga Gagmayng Mag-uuma sa Oriental Negros-KMP, last June 10 2009.

The killing of Lorico was the fifth of the series of killings in Negros Oriental this year. “This has been a blatant attack to the struggling peasantry under the fascist US-Arroyo Regime, executed deliberately under the Oplan Bantay Laya II, which persecutes the Legal Democratic Mass Movement. Series of Killings in Negros Oriental are executed by the 79th Infantry Battalion as a desperate attempt to quash down the masses.” Said Nador Malicay, Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas-Secretary General for the Visayas.

Lorico was shot after attending the Anti-ConAss Rally. “The US-Arroyo Regime does not allow critics and is purging those who oppose her together with her armed goons the Military in Negros Oriental the 79th IB. They thought that killing one of our members will silence the broad oppressed masses in protesting unjust laws such as the House Resolution (HR) 1109, popularly known as Constituent Assembly (Con-Ass) and extension of Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) with Reform or (CARPer), well they are wrong” Malicay Added.

“We ask for justice in the killing of Fermin Lorico and other peasant martyrs whom the state is accountable, for until now none of the state perpetrated killings done by their gunmen the 79th Infantry Battalion has come to justice! And we will continue the fight Fermin and other martyrs died for, the passage of HB 3059 and the struggle for Genuine Agrarian Reform. Fermin died a hero and a comrade to all of us!” ended Malicay.
